Dissecting the Electro-Harmonix Blackfinger (not puretube)

last update: 21.07.2007

Ok, here it is, the holy Electro-Harmonix Blackfinger with tubes:

When we remove the tube cover it looks like this:

After opening the case it looks like this:

If we remove the upper pcb it looks like this:

Now let´s have a closer look at the second PCB:

Nothing really impressing, nothing worth to remove all the knobs, screws etc. But look at this:

Nice components but it looks like assembled in china. Hey I thought this is a " puretube " design (pure tube = only tubes), but for which reason there is a quad op-amp inside ? Is the tube only used somewhere in the signal path like in Behringer units ? And the rest only a normal opto-compressor ? Did you see the optocouplers ? Have another look here:

Ok, enough time spent with this unit. I think it will be wasted time to trace a schematic. Lets better close the unit and sell it:

Ohhh, I had luck. I could find somebody who didn´t want to look inside and bought this unit:

SOLD !!!
